Stakeholder #2

The next Stakeholder is the Banfield Pet Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut. As an organization there are claims made for and against its practices, but it plays a large role in the Dr. John Robb event of 2013

Dogs barking, cats meowing, and a low murmur of a large veterinary staff can be heard as you walk through the white halls of the Banfield Pet Hospital. It is a place where numerous pets from around the world go to, to receive quality care. Banfield Pet Hospital, in general and in a more broader view, is a privately owned company that is based out of Oregon that has spread to Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States. As an operator of veterinary clinics, it is highly popular and you have probably seen at least one clinic in America. Founded in 1955, it is the largest privately owned veterinary practice in the United States. More specifically for this event, the Banfield Pet Hospital in Stamford is located near a park where laughter can be heard and conveniently located near the popular Turnpike in Connecticut. It was previously owned by Dr. John Robb, the main stakeholder and one of the only people to defy their veterinary practices. It is a very prestigious pet hospital and seen as such throughout the country due to is past qualifications. This specific hospital is open six days a week and is known for its 'highest level' of surgical and medical needs for their pets.

Main Claims:

1. Banfield think their punishment is just

“As I am directed by my CEO, we are going to do the right thing by our pets and our clients each and every time. We take that responsibility very seriously at Banfield Pet Hospitals. When that is not occurring, we are going to do something about it,” said Vincent Bradley, Banfield’s senior vice president of operations.

2. Banfield told their clients John Robb was wrong.

"[Banfield Pet Hospital] has sent letters to more than 5,000 of his [Dr. John Robb] clients telling them their pets have not been properly vaccinated and encouraging them to bring their pets in for boosters, a company official said."

3. Banfield believes John Robb breached charter agreements.

"Banfield the Pet Hospital to remove him as the Stamford charter veterinarian on the grounds that he breached their charter agreement terms; citing his vaccine protocol as not meeting their approved standard of care."

These claims are more straightforward and don't tend to be as emotionally driven as Dr. Robb's. However, since this is such a big company there are often ways the company can become corrupt. They have ways of moving around certain moral laws and such, so it should still make people cautious to trust everything that they say. As a big company, they might not be thinking about what is best for the pets.
